Welcome to The Mexico Report!

I read a story about a month ago that the tourism board in Australia had a contest to select a blogger to write and manage a blog in order to highlight the islands of the Great Barrier Reef and showcase Australia’s unique island experience to the global market.

“This is a dream job”, the winning contestant said.  “I mean, getting paid to blog from an incredibly beautiful area, to snorkel, eat the best food, meet interesting people, do all the fun excursions and blog about them. Who wouldn’t want to do this?”

After reading the story, I immediately posted on my Facebook account, “I should be doing this job, but from Mexico!  I could do the same thing, blogging about all of the great things about Mexico!”  After this post, I got so many encouraging responses, like ‘You can do it!’, ‘Go for it’, etc.   After thinking about it for a while, I realized… why don’t I just DO IT?   I want to highlight the positives about the beautiful country and show people that they can go to Mexico and be safe, be healthy and have a fantastic experience. So on this day, June 22, 2009, The MEXICO Report was born.

It was good to find you today. I am always looking for good news about Mexico! I live in Guadalajara and operate the 3rd most popular B&B in the city. ( on Trip Advisor) You would not know it from the slower times? It is so safe here, I rarelyhear of any drug related incidents here. But does anyone really think that the Secretary of State H.Clinton and the president of the United States just randomly visited this city of 7 million out of support for “mostly unpopular” laws like Nafta..or too donate a few billion dollars to help with the drug cartel wars? Hell no. The 2011 Pan American Games will be held here in October with 42 countries all visiting en masse! This includes Canada and the U.S. Does anyone have an idea that this issue was not brought up?? The second largest city in Mexico is the safest city of it’s size and will be for as long as event like this are to be held in this country! I have lived here permanently for 6 years now. It has always been a wonderful country. Michoacan is in a sad state of affairs right now, but it will change. GDL is not a drug route @ 5200 ft! Yes, if you have time..drop some good news about the safest large city in Mexico, Guadalajara! If you look up some articles in the last year from LINDA ELLERBIE, who lives part time in Puerto Vallarta, you might find some great stuff to add to your blogs. Good luck and thank you!
