Cancun Honored With Top Accolades at 2011 World Travel Awards

Cancun, Mexico – The World Travel Awards, the most comprehensive, and prestigious worldwide awards program in the travel industry, has announced its 2011 winners and Cancun has been awarded with top honors. Named both “Mexico & Central America’s Leading Destination” and “Mexico & Central America’s Leading Beach Destination,” the beautiful destination is, once again, being recognized for its world-class standards.

World Travel Awards 2011

Quintana Roo Governor, Mr. Roberto Borge Angulo at the XXXII World Travel Market accepted three awards on behalf of the Cancun Convention and Visitors Bureau from Mr. Graham E. Cooke, President of the World Travel Group. The Governor was in London for the event; where he met with tour operator wholesalers, airline representatives and media, whom he thanked for their continued support and positioning of the region's natural beauty, beaches and diversity of entertainment options.

Along with awarding the overall destination, The World Travel Awards honored Dreams Cancun Resport & Spa, Mexico as “Mexico and Central America’s Leading Family Resort 2011” and The Cancun Center as “Mexico & Central America’s Leading Meetings and Conference Centre.” The nearby Rio Secreto, a favorite attraction to Cancun visitors looking to experience a different side of the destination, was named “Mexico & Central America’s Leading Green Expedition.”

Last, but certainly not least, The Cancun Convention and Visitors Bureau takes great pride in being named “Mexico & Central America’s Leading Tourist Board.”

The World Travel Awards began with the aim of encouraging the international travel and tourism industry to embrace the pursuit of excellence. The nominations examined and inspected by a group of industry experts in areas such as customer relations, creativity, quality of service, standards, guest satisfaction, and product innovation. The process takes place throughout the course of each year. The voting process is a year-long online campaign that encourages participation from travel professions from around the world and recently, in 2009, was opened to the traveling public.

Cancun is eager to invite all visitors to take a break from the cold-winter months this year and enjoy the warmth and hospitality of the Mexican Caribbean along with top attractions, such as the world’s largest Under Water Museum, delicious culinary experiences, and unparalleled nightlife – or to simply bask in the warm sun and take in some much-needed R&R.
