Celebrity Host of Extra TV, Mario Lopez Talks About Mexico at Star-Studded 2011 ALMA Awards

ALMA Award Winner Rick Najera and Host of ExtraTV, Mario Lopez at ALMA Awards 2011

I can’t help but get a little star struck sometimes when we go to events, seeing that my husband works in entertainment. Take for instance, when we ran into the charming and very sweet host of Extra TV’s Mario Lopez. He performed in Rick’s award-winning stage comedy, Latinologues, early on when the show was first starting. In fact, something they share in common is that they are both from San Diego. On Saturday, Sept 10, it was great for them to catch up at the 2011 ALMA Awards.

Being that he was right in front of me, I took my 2-second window of opportunity (on behalf of The MEXICO Report and Mexico Today) to ask him about Mexico because I knew from following him on Twitter (@MarioLopezExtra), that he had recently returned from Cancun, Mexico.

How did you like Mexico?

“I loved it!”

You were in Cancun, right?

“Yes, it was really beautiful.”

I’m so glad to know you loved it.

“I did! I had a great time in Cancun!”

Mario also tweeted about his Mexico experience. Here is a great quote from one of his tweets: “Had a blast in Cancun! The Cancun airport is one of the coolest airports ever!”

Mario Lopez was a presenter at this year’s ALMA Awards, hosted by actress Eva Longoria and comedian George Lopez. The NCLR ALMA Awards show is a one-of-a-kind tribute, dedicated to honoring the spirit and accomplishments of the most prolific Latinos in the entertainment industry, spanning music, television and film.

This year’s show featured celebrities such as Jessica Alba, Maria Celeste Arraras, Jake T. Austin, Benjamin Bratt, Maria Canals-Barrera, Cote de Pablo, David Henrie, Eva La Rue, Mario Lopez, Oscar Nuñez, Michael Peña, Aubrey Plaza, and Naya Rivera, as well as a live performances by Pitbull, Demi Lovato and Gloria Estefan.

Here are some other fun photos from the evening:

Special thanks to Mario Lopez. It is always great to see his commitment to the Latino community and to know that he had a great time in Mexico when he visited Cancun.
