The Mexico Report presents a hero-a-day in the month of December.  A year in review, meet one of the 2013 Real Heroes of Mexico, Tricia Pohlman.

Mexico City, Mexico

“For far too long Mexico has received one-sided news coverage painting an unflattering image to potential residents and visitors. But globalization is upon us and Mexico has a rapidly growing middle class and an economy that’s ranked eleventh in the world. International corporations have taken notice, and today Mexico is a melting pot of expats and retirees who come here to work and stay. As transplants transition they need tools, resources and assistance to build a life in their new home. Since its inception in 1977, the Newcomer’s Club of Mexico City has done just that, and under the leadership of Tricia Pohlman, the club has modernized, regrouped and maintained unwavering dedication to Mexicans in need. The Club provides networking, safety classes and cultural education. But, it also provides dedicated opportunities to make a permanent impact on DF: it provides baby blankets to children in need ensuring that babies leave the hospital in a warm handmade blanket, sheets to a hospital ensuring that families who visit have clean sheets; companionship and hot meals to seniors and a dedicated playgroup to the children of Hogar Dulce Hogar.” Tricia was nominated by Kimberley Bow Sundy.
