The Mexico Report presents a hero-a-day in December. Meet one of the 2013 Real Heroes of Mexico, Chris Pesenti.
La Paz, Baja California Sur
“Chris has been working in Northwest Mexico for over 11 years always striving for an efficient use of the natural resources by empowering individuals, incubating non profits and community owned businesses. From Magdalena Bay and Cabo Pulmo in the Baja Peninsula to Verde Camacho in Sinaloa he has developed, directed, advised or participated in different projects from organizations as ProPeninsula, Grupo Tortuguero de las Californias, Amigos para la Conservación de Cabo Pulmo, Magdalena Baykeepers and many others. In 2009, Chris founded RED Sustainable Travel, an organization that promotes social and economic development in rural communities throughout Northwest Mexico by linking species and habitat conservation to sustainable tourism. RED has helped in the creation of sustainable jobs, provided funding for vital conservation work such as the sea turtle monitoring, and funded environmental education programs where more than 100 children from the local communities have participated and gotten engaged with the natural resources preservation programs. If you’re looking for someone that actively supports Mexico’s development by enhancing the richness of its cultures, people and natural resources, Chris is the person you’re looking for.” Chris was nominated by Jaime Campos.
