Ritz-Carlton Cancun Partners with Non-Profit Animal Rescue, Offers Guests Memorable Volunteer Opportunity

Rescued Dogs Get Pampered Through Resort’s Dog Wash Community Footprint Activity

CANCUN, Mx – Dog-loving guests at The Ritz-Carlton Cancun can bring back more than fond memories and make a difference while on vacation.  By making a $39 USD tax-deductible donation to non-profit animal rescue organization, Rescate Malix,  travelers can volunteer on the first Saturday of the month and have the unique experience of giving back to the local community.

Once a month guests, including families, have the opportunity to visit Rescate Malix’s Rescue & Awareness Center where they will get to wash, groom and exercise the adorable animals that have been rescued from living in the streets. Located next to an ancient Mayan site, it offers a great and entertaining alternative for guests who like to explore beyond the hotel’s surroundings.

“The Dog Wash project helps us to raise awareness for a culture of non-violence towards animals, a principle that is in the core of our values, while offering a unique and fun activity for visiting families and friends” said Marco Ortlam, director of operations and owner of “Boomer” a Labrador he rescued from a shelter.

“Our guests have enjoyed the activity more than we ever imagined.” said Ortlam. “One couple became so emotionally engaged with the project that, on top of their donation, they handed us $100 in cash for the much-needed hip-surgery of “Chiquis,” one of the stray dogs at the shelter.”

While grooming the dogs and raising funds for Rescate Malix is a major focus, the Dog Wash project also helps to find permanent homes for these adorable four-legged friends. The organization has in place an easy process for visitors to adopt dogs and take them home.

“We have created an environment where families and individuals can enjoy learning about the process of rescuing, rehabilitating and adopting a lovable stray or Malixos,” said Rescate Malix. “Creating an environment where people feel comfortable meeting our dogs has been fundamental in being able to create lasting change in the local community.”

“Many of our ladies and gentlemen generously volunteer their time and resources to help Rescate Malix,” added Nora Rodriguez, training manager.  “The real goal is education and awareness – teaching the staff and locals how to care for the puppies and prevent future stray animals.”

The Dog Wash project at The Ritz-Carlton, Cancun is offered the first Saturday of the month. For more information or to schedule your slot, please call 011-52-998-881-0808. Visit Ritz Carlton Cancun for more information.
