2nd Annual Oaxaca International Independent Film and Video Festival

The Oaxaca FilmFest, an official cultural event of Oaxaca de Juarez, Mexico, will be taking place November 12 – 19, 2011 in the richly romantic and storied city renowned as an epicenter of culture in the Americas. The festival is the newest recognized member of the dynamic and energized cinematic community that has emerged within the area over the last decade.

A competitive event, Oaxaca FilmFest provides a platform for both seasoned and emerging filmmakers to showcase their work in front enthusiastic audiences. The Festival’s inaugural season presented 150 films from over 30 countries and treated audiences in Southern Mexico to 27 world premieres.

Almost half of the Festival’s selections went on to win awards throughout the festival circuit. Programming highlights included Peter Bratt’s award-winning film LA MISSION starring Benjamin Bratt, and director Josh Crook’s circuit darling LA SOGA.
This season the Festival expands its awards offerings; filmmakers from each continent will be competing for nearly $100,000 USD worth of in-kind prizes. The winner of the AGAVE award for Best Film will walk away with a $30,000 film and equipment package, a special Festival screening, syndicated media coverage, and a private screening with distribution executives.

Additional awards and prizes are presented across a variety of program categories including documentary, short, Mexican film, and more.

Mission and Objective – Oaxaca International Independent Film and Video Festival aims to contribute to the economic and creative vitality of Oaxaca by providing a platform for both seasoned filmmakers and emerging artists to showcase their work, and seeks to expand the audience for independent film.

More About The Festival – New to the Oaxaca FilmFest this year are the Oaxaca FilmFest Screenwriting Competition, Oaxaca FilmFest Work In Progress Section, and Oaxaca FilmFest Film Market. Selected filmmakers will receive discounts on transportation and lodging, complimentary festival passes, film market inclusion, distribution opportunities, and invitations to fiestas and filmmaker roundtables.
