National Treasures of the Mexican Caribbean

David A. Nuñez, author of Que es Lo Que Vi – What Did I See? National Treasures of the Mexican Caribbean, identifies more than 120 species most encountered in this region of Mexico.  From fish and sea turtles to birds, mammals and corals, this colorful, bilingual book is packed with more than 100 photos captured by the author and his team, along with easy-to-read descriptions and groups of animals that visitors to this area are most likely to see.

When I first saw the book, I knew it would be something I could share with my kids. Glossy photo pages categorized by species made it easy to engage and capture their attention. When we went through it together, I pointed out animals we had already seen and those on our wish list. It brought back memories of a few photos I had snapped on previous trips to this region. But most importantly, this book opened my eyes to all of the life that exists in Mexico. Aptly named, these are the national treasures of the Mexican Caribbean.

At the end of the book, the author offers various online references for those interested in further details. Proceeds from the book benefit local conservation efforts, Mexiconservación, a non-profit environmental organization based in Tulum, with the goal to preserve the beauty of the region for future generations. Available for purchase through Amazon for just under $15, this is a great investment for any traveler or family and would also make a perfect holiday gift or stocking stuffer.  Visit Mexiconservación on Facebook for up-to-date environmental news about Mexico.
