My Mexico: Videos of Everyday People Celebrating Mexico

Mexico is a diverse and historically rich country filled with original, indigenous cultures, eco-tourism, biodiversity, natural landscapes, lush jungles, deserts, tens of thousands of archeological sites, colonial cities, wine and tequila production, world-class cuisine, haciendas, cenotes, cathedrals, UNESCO World Heritage Sites, a warm spirit and so much more.

I think it’s only fair that you see positive images of Mexico and know that there are safe places to travel and visit all over the large country which consists of 31 states, 2500 counties and one Federal District. Mexico is an enormous country, enormous – so when you hear of bad news, keep it in perspective that these areas are isolated and far removed from tourist destinations.

“In the case of Mexico, we have 2,500 counties, with challenges in 80; that’s less than 5% and those are far from the tourist destinations,” said Secretary of Tourism Gloria Guevara in a recent interview with The NYFP.

Thankfully, our team at Mexico Today knows the value and importance of sharing good news about Mexico. On Mexico Today’s Facebook page sidebar, a social magazine awaits where anyone who likes the page can submit an article or link a story about Mexico. Ten people are chosen each month to receive a prize of $500.

The sidebar also includes a YouTube video channel where you can visit to see some of the latest video works from the Mexico Today team.  At our kick off meeting in Oaxaca last June, several of the Mexico Today ambassadors told their stories of what they loved about Mexico, why they chose Mexico as a vacation destination or why they chose to relocate their lives to Mexico.

Here are a few of those videos:

For Kelly McLaughlin (A Canuck in Cancun), the reasons to visit Mexico are endless. She originally visited Mexico in 2003 for a vacation and never went back home. This extreme adventure lover enjoys snorkeling, zip lines and the natural wonders of cenotes. For McLaughlin the best reason to visit Cancun, Mexico is unique to each visitor: from relaxing on the beach and drinking margaritas, to ecotourism, culture and archeology.

Oaxaca has long been considered Mexico’s culinary capital. For Ana Flores (Spanglish Baby), there is no better food than the food in Oaxaca. The most notable aspect of Oaxacan cuisine is its variety of moles. The state is called “the land of the seven moles.” For Flores, Oaxaca is a great place to have a culinary adventure. In this video, Flores also visits archeological site Monte Alban, which was named a World Heritage Site in 1987.
