Multicultural Learning Center (MLC) Raises Funds to Promote Bilingual Education

Debbie Allen Plus Peter Murrieta, Maria Canals-Barrera and Cast Members from Disney’s Wizards of Waverly Place To Be Honored at 2nd Annual Multicultural Harmony Gala

LOS ANGELES – Celebrated performer Debbie Allen along with Peter Murrieta and cast from Disney’s popular kids show, Wizards of Waverly Place including Maria Canals-Barrera, will be among the honorees at the 2nd Annual Multicultural Harmony Gala on Saturday, March 13, 2010 at the lush Pickwick Gardens in Burbank.

The gala, created, hosted and produced by actress Yeniffer Behrens of True Form Films, will benefit and raise much needed funds for the Multicultural Learning Center, a bilingual (Spanish/English) charter school in the San Fernando Valley for children K-8 through the event’s silent auction, dinner, dancing and presentations. Comedian Royale Watkins will co-host.

“I created this event to bring awareness to bilingual education by celebrating and uniting our diverse community through our children’s education,” said Yeniffer Behrens.  “These bilingual children are the future of America, and they are learning to be global citizens through dual language education.  I am very proud that my son Adrian attends this magnificent school!”

Award-winning, acclaimed actress/dancer/choreographer Debbie Allen will receive the Multicultural Harmony Community Leadership Award for her outstanding efforts in the multicultural community. Throughout her life, on screen and off, Allen has embodied diversity, bilingualism and multicultural harmony. Executive producer and writer Peter Murrieta and cast members from Wizards of Waverly Place including Maria Canals-Barrera and Jennifer Stone will receive the Multicultural Harmony Inspirational Achievement Award. Guests will be treated to a special musical performance by The Mariachi Divas and comedy by writer/performer Rick Najera.

The 2nd Annual Multicultural Harmony Gala takes place on Saturday, March 13, 2010 at Pickwick Gardens, 1001 West Riverside Drive, Burbank, CA 91506. Red carpet arrivals, VIP reception and silent auction begin at 6:30 p.m., with dinner and presentations beginning at 8:00 p.m.
