Mexico announces its inclusion in Sports Illustrated Swimsuit 2017. With an unprecedented reach of over 60 million readers worldwide, SI Swimsuit is available is on sale now.

Mexico’s beautiful landscapes of lush jungle, pristine beaches, sophisticated hotels and enchanting cenotes from the states of Quintana Roo and Yucatan were the perfect setting for this year’s prestigious photo shoot. SI Swimsuit 2017 showcases Mexico’s breathtaking destinations alongside the beautiful SI Swimsuit models which include Hannah Jeter, Nina Agdal, Mia Kang, Robyn Lawley, and Kate Bock.

In the 54-year history of SI Swimsuit, this is the eleventh time Mexico has been featured in the magazine. Renowned fashion and celebrity portrait photographer, Ruven Afanador was behind the camera for this issue as he shot Sports Illustrated Swimsuit models in a wide variety of stunning locations.

“Mexico, rich with history, has one of the most modern and sophisticated cultures,” says MJ Day, Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Assistant Managing Editor. “Tulum is buzzing with art, eco design, natural and organic cuisine, making it a popular destination for tons of hip, young tourists. It boasts gorgeous beaches and diverse architecture. We took advantage of shooting with local artwork as props, local jewelry and some local wildlife! Kate Bock had the pleasure of shooting with an iguana and two parrots. It is a magical place and Ruven Afanador brought us home with stunning imagery.”

Mexico welcomed SI Swimsuit to the country once again to experience its bountiful and diverse destinations – from the barefoot luxury of Tulum and the Riviera Maya to the charming natural and historical beauty of Coba and Valladolid. Mexico, as one of the most coveted countries to experience right now, which can be seen by SI Swimsuit’s selection, is host to other high-profile international events including Formula 1, Ironman and the NBA and NFL organizations.

Perfect Setting Makes for Perfect Shots

Riviera Maya is one of Mexico’s top ecotourism destinations. Situated in the state of Quintana Roo, it is home to some of the most stunningly beautiful beaches in the world, with stretches of pristine white sand lapped by the clear turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea. Visitors to the area can’t miss Tulum’s archaeological ruins, the famous site with spectacular ocean views of unspoiled beaches and the surrounding coastal region.

Exclusive and top-notch unique boutique hotels can be found throughout, each perfectly capturing Tulum’s effortless sophistication.

Coba, another iconic location in Quintana Roo visited by SI Swimsuit, boasts an archaeological site with the highest pyramid in Mexico’s Mayan world. Visitors who brave the steep climb reap the rewards of stunning views of the surrounding jungle. Towering at 130 feet high, Nohuch Mul, which means “large mound” in Mayan, is the tallest structure in the Coba archaeological site and Yucatan Peninsula.

This year’s SI Swimsuit shoot also explored a number of cenotes, Mexico’s emblematic fresh water sinkholes considered sacred by the Maya. The state of Yucatan is known for its thousands of cenotes; and the destination’s natural beauty, rich biodiversity and history made for stunning shots. The town of Valladolid, in the heart of the region, for example, is dotted with fascinating cenotes, in addition to historic churches and distinct colonial architecture.

Mexico: A World-Class Destination

While Mexico has more than 14,400 kilometers of coastline and 450 internationally recognized beaches, its offering extends far beyond sun and beach. Mexico’s more than 3,000-year-old culture has resulted in more than 47,000 archeological sites across the country as well as 111 Magical Towns (Pueblos Mágicos), a designation given to locations with unique cultural, historical or natural beauty. Mexico’s extraordinary mix of breathtaking landscapes, world-class infrastructure, diverse gastronomy, and luxury offerings cater to today’s sophisticated travelers.

Professional and enthusiast golfers can enjoy more than 175 top-ranked courses designed by top personalities such as Greg Norman, Tiger Woods, and Jack Nicklaus. Destination weddings continue to be a growing trend and Mexico has unique ways to celebrate ranging from an underwater wedding to a traditional Mayan ceremony.

Drawing Global Attention

Mexico has been garnering international attention; in 2017, two cities were recognized by The New York Times as top spots on the “Best Places to Go in 2017” list including Tijuana and Puerto Escondido; and Mexico City was just named as one of the “Top 5 Travel Destinations of 2016 According to Google Searches,” as reported by Conde Nast Traveler.
