IRVING, Texas – Chef Omar Covarrubias was awarded the National Award for the Latino Chef of the Year at the 3rd Flavors Of Passion Awards, which took place September 30 at The Studios at The Hill. Founder Chef Gaytan created this event to celebrate excellence in the Latin kitchen, through the recognition of the Chefs who are distinguished by their reputation, quality, variety, authenticity, creativity, presentation and excellence as a whole.

Chefs Douglas Rodriguez and Aaron Sanchez were awarded in previous years.

This great event was sponsored by recognized companies, such as Coca Cola and Cadillac, among others, and a host of personalities and representatives of the government of Mexico and the United States.

“Chef Omar Covarrubias is a great promoter of the excellence of Mexican food in the world,” said the Mexican Consulate in Dallas, TX.

Covarrubias added, “It’s pure love for Mexico and dedication to God and my family, because in the world of cooking, it would not be possible without the support of my family.”

Chef Omar is the producer and host of TV’s “Meet Mexico for its Flavors” program, which was recently awarded by AMAAC (Asociacion Mexicana de Artistas y Asesores Culinarios/Mexican Association of Culinary Artists and Advisors).

About Chef Omar Covarrubias:

Born in Mexico City on August 24, 1969 and at a very young age he was already experimenting with traditional Mexican products at his family’s hotel kitchen en Cuautla, Morelos, Mexico with the guidance and “secretos” of traditional “cocineras” from several regions of Mexico. He attended and graduated Johnson and Wales Culinary School in Florida. He was chosen as the Executive chef for governmental functions including gala dinner for Mexican president during his visit to the world economic forum in Davos, Switzerland.
