—————————————-

Mario Bosquez is host of “Living Today” on Martha Stewart Living Radio (Sirius 112 and XM 157) and can be heard live every weekday from 1 to 4 p.m. ET.  The show has been nominated by the James Beard Foundation for Excellence in Broadcasting.  He is a dear friend and a very talented man.

Name: Mario Bosquez

Nickname: Hugo (My nieces and nephews call me that. My niece Alexandra (she watched Bye Bye Birdie about a thousand times when she was a little girl and decided she was Kim and I was Hugo and it’s been that way ever since.)

Reside: In Chinatown, New York City

Occupation: Host of Martha Stewart Living Radio show, “Living Today”

What do you do every day? I research and host a live, daily three-hour show featuring cooking, decorating, gardening pet keeping and other lifestyle elements.

What’s your show like? The show is like Martha Stewart’s “Living Magazine” on the radio…

Are you Mexican? Yes..also Native American, some Jewish/Converso Heritage and other flavors thrown in for good measure.

Prove it: My apartment looks like a Mariachi threw up in it. You can’t be in any part of my loft without a Frida Kahlo painting staring at you. I make guacamole at the drop of a hat. Is that enough proof?

What is your guilty pleasure? Making tacos out of left-over Mole at midnight. (More proof I am Mexican.)

Books you’ve authored? The Chalupa Rules: A Latino Guide to Gringolandia.

What are the Chalupa Rules? They are Spanish proverbs and sayings I created to get you through life in the United States. They are based on images from the game of Loteria (MORE proof I am Mexican).

Books you’d like to author? 101 Ways to Make Guacamole. (See, I told you I was Mexican.)

Favorite dishes you’ve made in the last three months? Mexican Chocolate Cake, Mexican Corn Pudding, Cumin-Roasted Almonds from the Big Book of Appetizers.   (See recipes below.)

Have you ever met Martha Stewart? Yes, I actually baked my Mexican Chocolate Cake for Martha when I interviewed with her for this job. She must have liked it because she hired me.

If you were stranded on a desert island with Martha Stewart, what would you do? Martha and I would definitely craft a sailboat from all the available leaves, driftwood, and seaweed. Of course, the sailboat would feature creative, beautiful decorations as well.

If you could guest star in another Broadway musical, which one would you pick and why? “In the Heights” because it features a Latino cast and I love the role of Kevin, the father of one of the leads who gets to sing two wonderful solos. I have a visualization of playing that role some day. By the way, when I did “Latinologues” I was so nervous I started crying when the stage manager called “five minutes.”

Favorite vacation spot in Mexico? I love Tulum because of the history and its beauty. I have also gone camping in the Copper Canyon where you find adventure, breathtaking scenery and the amazing Tarahumaras.

Best thing about your job? Meeting both established Chefs such as Emeril Lagasse, Lidia Bastianich, and Jacques Pepin…plus all the up-and-coming chefs as well.

Unusual talent? I have an unusual talent for wearing a kilt. I wear a kilt quite often to work, social events, even on the subway. To see what one looks like www.amerikilts.com. Hey, if kilts are good enough for the Scots, Aztecs, and Egyptians…they are good enough for me. Plus they are extremely comfortable.
