Navigating your way through Mexico can be tricky business sometimes, whether you are flying or driving (or even walking). But having a good map is essential, not only for the planning process but for the duration of your visit.
Before I set out for a three-month visit to Oaxaca one fall, my aunt gave me a beautiful map of the city of Oaxaca. I remember looking at the detailed city streets and marking where I would be staying for my visit and where I would be taking class. I highlighted the route and was able to get a head start by familiarizing myself with the town before I even arrived. I carried that map with me everywhere I went and used it so much on that trip, it was ripped and had holes in it by the time I returned back to the states.
Mexico Maps, run by entrepreneur Mark Walker out of Santa Barbara, California, is an online, one-stop shopping map store and offers travelers one of the widest selection of maps and data for Mexico.
As manager of a map importing and distributing company specializing in Latin America from 1989 to 2001, Mark Walker was lucky enough to travel to almost all of the countries in Latin America several times. He then purchased the domain www.mexicomaps.com and took it over from the owner in 2001 and began successfully growing his company.
For touring and recreational needs, Mexico Maps offers folded maps, atlases,
paper topographic maps and GPS m
aps. The Mexico GPS Atlas includes off-road tracks and trails in some areas (such as the Baja California Peninsula and Copper Canyon). It includes a database of over 280,000 cities and towns, 70,000 points of interest and more than 2000 PEMEX gas stations. And that could be very handy!
Walker says people love the maps. “I have many emails that I’ve received from customers. Once I received an email asking who my boss was so they could tell them what a great job I did.”
And he is big on customer satisfaction.
“I believe in customer service beyond what is normally given in the web space or any other space. Also, due to the complexities of GPS systems, I have to follow up to make sure that the customer understands the download, unlocking and transfer procedures.”
Whether you are planning to visit, vacation, study abroad or even going on a business trip to Mexico, from Baja to the Yucatan area to Chiapas and any location in between, you can find a fantastic selection of Mexico maps at http://www.mexicomaps.com.
