Celebrating the Life of Fernando Garcia, Real Resorts

Less than a month ago during Cancun Travel Mart, on behalf of Pleasant Holidays, I again had the pleasure of meeting with founder and General Director of Real Resorts and Best Day, Fernando Garcia and his professional team of travel industry pros. During a private lunch with Mr. Garcia and the team at The Royal Cancun (soon to be Hyatt Zilara Cancun on November 15, 2013) we talked about industry trends, travel news, the new tax in Cancun, hotel production, future plans and more.

That evening he would address the media in a press conference to talk about new developments with Playa Hotels & Resorts and Hyatt Hotels.

Less than three weeks later, on November 5, our team sadly learned that Mr. Garcia had passed due to a stroke.

In the short two years I knew Fernando, he always carried himself very professional, yet down to earth, a people’s person. His business card did not say CEO, but rather ‘General Helper’. He cared deeply about his guests and was always passionate, creative, inventive and a meticulous observer. He was instrumental in Mexico tourism. He was a husband, father, philanthropist and so much more.

He will be missed.
