The MEXICO Report
By Susie Albin-Najera
Today, entreAmigos, (among friends) a local non-profit in San Francisco, Nayarit (a.k.a. San Pancho), celebrates five years of serving the community and will mark the occasion with a kid-focused birthday celebration. Everyone is invited to join in the festivities.
Founded and led by Nicole Swedlow (originally from California), entreAmigos creates educational opportunities for families and children in the area by operating a library, computer center, art gallery, scholarship program, after school programs, recycling programs and a women-to-work program.
EntreAmigos also organizes large community activities like Planta San Pancho, the Summer Workshops, an Annual Posada, parades, and much more with only five part-time paid staff, plus a slew of amazing volunteers committed to the children of San Pancho.
The birthday celebration will take place Friday, January 28, 2011 starting at 5:30pm and will have art, snacks, a giant birthday cake and a 2,000 photo timeline of all the memories they’ve shared together throughout the last five years.
At 7pm, they will gather around the birthday cake to blow out the candles together and celebrate future plans. After the event, guests are invited to visit the local Art Walk and the great San Pancho restaurants.

Local San Pancho Band Needs Instruments and Support
Two years ago, a local mom was desperate to see that her teenage son and his friends had something to do. She raised funds and instruments, found a talented teacher to come to San Pancho and started a musical band for teenage boys. None of the kids had any prior musical training. Today, two years later, the boys band, now known as El Tracadero, is still together and is sounding everyday more impressive. The commitment of these kids and the dedication of Isabella and her family is remarkable.
The boys now have several instruments that need to be replaced including a congo drum set, a clarinet, a tuba and a trombone (the valve kind). Entreamigos is working to collect instruments or support from people specifically for this cause. If you have an instrument that you can donate, please drop it by. If you would like to contact us for more information please do so at info@entreamigos.org.mx
You can see the band at tonight’s Entreamigos Birthday Bash.
