24 Hours in Mexico City

Mexico City ExperienceResearching, clicking and reading always leads me to a story or video that evokes even more nostalgia for Mexico. Although it’s been a few years since I’ve visited the capital (not including my stopovers), I see that it’s even more dynamic than I remember.

Today I discovered a very informative site, Mexico City Experience. I’m definitely not the first to discover it, but I would like to draw your attention to some of the beautiful videos that capture Mexico City in the most authentic of ways. The video captures everyday happenings in Mexico City and features images from the city during a 24-hour period — at the Mexican pavilion at Shanghai Expo (according to the site). The video was produced by the Mexico City Tourism Promotion Fund and co-directed by Luis Mandoki and Mariana Rodriguez. Other credits: Photography and editing by Alberto Anaya, Estaban Arrangoiz and Yaome Escamilla. Music by Alejandro Castaños.

Mexico City Experience is an extremely resourceful site as well.  One of the sections that particularly interested me was ‘Voices from the City’.

“To truly know Mexico City, you must know the people.”

The “Voices from the City” section of the site features video profiles of Mexico City residents, and articles written by residents. These are the voices you hear on the street, in cafes and around neighborhood parks. The people in the stories have very different lives and professions, ranging from an actress to a professor to an architect, but all share one thing: a deep love for Mexico City and their Mexico City experience.

Voices of the People

Another one of the videos that also stunned was this one below, titled “Mexico City: A Modern Knowledge City“. With superb graphics and informative statistics, one begins to learn just how dynamic a city D.F. really is — from information technologies, sustainability and financial services to health, education and government leadership.

Last, after exploring the site, I thought it was important to note this letter from Mexico City’s Mayor, Marcelo Ebrard.

Mexico City is today a dynamic global business center, and a unique and authentic cultural and tourism destination. It is a modern city that offers visitors a wealth of experiences – from important museum collections, to exciting art galleries and performance centers, to memorable restaurants, shopping and nightlife.

Here you will find both Mexicans and many expats who are succeeding in every area of human endeavor – in business, the arts, design, education, healthcare, science and technology, and many more. The city’s dynamism is fed by a young, educated citizenry – Mexico is home to more than 500 universities and colleges – that is transforming the city from a service economy to one where knowledge-based industries will drive future economic growth.

The government of Mexico City is working hard to create an enjoyable experience for the more than 12 million people who visit us every year. We are investing in transportation systems to reduce traffic congestion and improve air quality. We are installing improved security and police systems to enhance public safety. And we are implementing a comprehensive 15-year Green Plan to make Mexico City one of the most sustainable cities in the world.

If you are coming to Mexico City to pursue business opportunities, you will find all of the services, expertise and infrastructure necessary to make your visit productive and successful. If you are coming to enjoy the many attractions, events and cultural opportunities of this world-class travel destination, you will find your Mexico City hosts eager to help make your visit memorable and rewarding.

Dynamic. Modern. Authentic. Sophisticated. International. Experience one of the world’s great urban destinations. Experience today’s Mexico City.

Head of Government, Federal District of Mexico
