SOLID Rhythm (Athletes of the Future) Special Event to Benefit San Diego’s Youth

On Wednesday, June 20, the community will come together to celebrate San Diego’s youth at We’ve Got Something to Dance For, a special fundraising event to benefit SOLID (Smile, Opportunity, Love, Innovation, Determination) Rhythm, hosted by Athletes of the Future Foundation.

SOLID RhythmSOLID Rhythm, created and founded by Daynara Castillo, is an afterschool dance program for underprivileged or homeless youth designed to provide a structured environment for kids where they can learn adaptive life training and coping skills while having fun.

A major focus of the program is developing trust, compassion, team building, friendship, respect and self-esteem through dancing in order to help reshape kids’ attitudes and views of the world in order to translate to other areas of their lives at home, school and in the community.

The special event will take place from 6pm – 9pm at Serenity Restaurant & Lounge, 201 J street San Diego CA 92101 at the Harbor Club in Downtown San Diego and will be hosted by award-winning actor/writer and San Diego native, Rick Najera.

“I know how the arts changed my life and supporting this organization is one way I can give back to ensure these kids’ lives will be changed as well,” said Najera.

The evening will include a silent auction, cuisine by Serenity Restaurant & Lounge and a special performance by The Body Poets, who have appeared on America’s Got Talent.

SOLID Rhythm mentors and teaches kids from 3rd grade to 12th grade, from different cultural backgrounds, primarily Latino and African-American, who are susceptible to or have been exposed to domestic violence, economic disparity, parental drug or alcohol abuse or low self-esteem. The organization provides a comfortable, safe and ‘solid’ environment where kids can express themselves through the art of dance, while learning confidence and life-building skills.
