Los Angeles based start-up beverage company Cobá, unveiled their revamped brand at the Natural Products Expo West and took home the sought after award of Top 5 Beverage Products at this national showcase among thousands of exhibitors at Expo West.

Founded by two Mexican Entrepreneurs, Arnulfo G Ventura from San Diego (family native to Guadalajara) and Jose Domene, from Monterrey, Mexico, Cobá’s natural aguas frescas contain premium and exotic ingredients like all-natural mango, guava, roselle flower (hibiscus), and the tamarind seed.

Influenced by family recipes, the Cobá founders pride themselves on their authentic approach to aguas frescas and in using all natural ingredients.

Formerly known as Bonadea, the owners felt it was necessary to revamp their look and feel to cater to a more authentic brand and opted to use organic agave nectar as a sweetener instead of going with the less expensive and less healthy refined sugars or high fructose corn syrup.

Aguas frescas have been around for centuries and the goal is to pay homage to the fact that it represents an entire culture.

Cobá, meaning “waters stirred by wind,” itself is a majestic Mayan city located in the tropical jungle of Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula and the founders were elated when they came across the name.  In essence, it captures the purity, heritage and spirit of one of the most ancient and adored drinks of the Mexican culture.

Inspired by the customary Mexican vitroleros, Cobá’s new barrel-shaped bottle captures the mini version of these iconic beverage pitchers, truly transforming it to one of the first authentic and ready-to-drink aguas frescas on the market today.

With this rebranding initiative, Cobá was able to genuinely embody the idea that the Meso-American forefathers had centuries ago using all-natural ingredients and sweetening aguas frescas with agave nectar to bring a powerful punch to the Natural Foods Expo West.  With one of the top rankings in the Best Food and Beverage Products category, Cobá’s new image exemplifies its originality, authenticity and sabor.

“Prior to launching Cobá, essentially we were in the discovery phase of our growth trajectory,” said Ventura.  “We now feel we have the right product/market fit and it’s time to accelerate and efficiently deploy shareholder capital.”

Cobá’s branding successfully meshes generations of times past with today. In a health conscious consumer market, founders Arnulfo Ventura and José Domene are hoping their all-natural and authentic approach to aguas frescas will continue to be well received.

Coba’s exotic flavors, all natural ingredients and true interpretation of aguas frescas bring a seasoned yet rejuvenated refreshment to the masses.

“We aim to increase our marketing efforts,” said Ventura, “and utilize our office space along the Downtown Art Walk to feature local Latino artists, musicians, designers and more.”

Cobá has participated in several different charity foundation projects under their former name Bonadea such as PADRES Contra el Cancer, where we sponsored a family with a one year supply of aguas frescas. Cobá is also involved in the Diabetes Walk of Los Angeles and several others.
