The MEXICO Report
By Susie Albin-Najera
Today, March 31, we celebrate the birthday of an American hero, Mexican-American, Cesar Chavez.
Cesar was a farm worker, a civil rights and labor leader, a religious and spiritual figure, a community servant and social entrepreneur, a crusader for nonviolent social change, an environmentalist and consumer advocate.
A humble and charismatic man, he devoted his life to the farm worker’s movement and social justice.
“The love for justice that is in us, is not only the best part of our being, but it is also the most true to our nature.”
“Non-violence is hard work. It is the willingness to sacrifice. It is the patience to win.”
The story of Cesar Estrada Chavez begins near Yuma, Arizona. Cesar was born on March 31, 1927. He was named after his grandfather, Cesario. Regrettably, the story of Cesar Estrada Chavez also ends near Yuma, Arizona. He passed away on April 23, 1993, in San Luis, a small village near Yuma, Arizona.
