Festival Will Spotlight the West Coast Premiere of the Mexican Feature Film, ‘Epitaph’ Followed by a Gala Celebration of Latino Film, Food and Culture
On Wednesday, April 27th, 2016, the Newport Beach Film Festival will present its 17th annual Mexican Spotlight, an evening celebration of Mexican cinema and culture. The Spotlight will screen the West Coast Premiere of the Mexican feature film Epitaph (Epitafio).
Three Spanish conquistadors, Captain Diego de Ordaz, Gonzalo and Pedro, march to the summit of the great volcano Popocatepetl. It is an arduous walk; they face the strength of nature and the fear of the unknown. Yet their biggest obstacle could be within them, as they doubt the purpose of the conquest of the New World. Epitaph (Epitafio) is directed by Yulene Olaizola and Rubén Imaz and stars Xabier Coronado, Martín Román, and Carlos Triviño.
“The Festival is exceptionally proud to showcase such strong Latino cinema,” stated Gregg Schwenk, CEO of the Newport Beach Film Festival. “Epitaph (Epitafio) is a story of will-power to overcome the volcano and of the overt power to conquer the Aztec Empire.”
The Mexican Spotlight film will screen at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 27th, 2016 at Edwards Big Newport (300 Newport Center Drive in Newport Beach, CA 92660)
The post-screening celebration will take place at 10:00 p.m. at the Via Lido Plaza (3459 Via Lido, Newport Beach, CA 92663). The evening will include several of Orange County’s top restaurants serving signature tastings, multiple DJs, live entertainment, a special performance by Orange County Aerial Arts, hosted bar by Stella Artois Beer, and Tito’s Handmade Vodka.
The Newport Beach Film Festival Mexican Spotlight is presented by UNIVISION 34 and KLVE – 107.5 FM and supported by Via Lido Plaza, OC Weekly, Para Todos, Orange County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, The Mexico Report, ProMéxico and Mexico Tourism.
